Appearance

Standing at a whopping five foot seven and one hundred and thirty two pounds, at first glance Zelman looks like a very pretty delinquent. He's described in the guidebook as having extreme beauty, for crying out loud! He's lithe and quite obviously spends a lot of time on his appearance, and with his red eyes and pale skin he certainly stands out. Though his hair is red as well, he's a natural blond and simply dyes it. The messed look his hair has (even when he's wearing his characteristic black toque) is deliberate.

As he's a vampire, Zelman has the traditional elongated canines. It's possible for him - and all vampires - to elongate them even further over the lower lip, though that is generally reserved during intimidation or times of high stress.

As for style, he generally goes for what's cool and sports-like. This tends to mean tracksuits, running shoes, and other comfortable clothes - he greatly dislikes formal stuff. Thanks to Sayuka most of his wardrobe has been things that make him look tough and rebellious. He also likes to wear gold earrings.

Personality

Zelman is cocky. Incredibly cocky. Fight in epic vampire battle where his strength could give either side an advantage? Nah, he'd rather watch it on the news and drink coke. He describes himself as a villian and, if one didn't know he was an 800 year old vampire, would likely assume he was just some smug juvenile delinquent. He enjoys teasing people and pushing their buttons, and lords his age, experience and high 'status' in the vampire world over others. (In BBBverse formalities abound, to the point where even if you're the antagonist you're pausing your evil plans to formally - and humbly - introduce yourself to an older vampire. Even if they already know who you are.)

This is just his outward self, though. His real self is someone with no morality and is very sociopathic. He despises most things and lives according to his existence as a vampire. He holds his freedom in extremely high regard, as well as his blood. His philosophy that the only true way a vampire can live is to trust completely in their blood - the very thing that makes them what they are. It'll never betray you when you're hesitating, and not believing in it can cause ruin to you and your entire bloodline.

He was antisocial for the longest time, but has since come to realize that being alone doesn't always work. And thanks to his war bloodline, he enjoys fighting a lot.

Abilities

Eye Raid: Can control another person's body, read minds and cause the victim to fall asleep. This requires direct eye contact initially.

Hide Hand: Telekinesis. Hide Hand can stop and lift objects, and apply pressure. It isn't said how strong Zelman is with this ability, but it's shown in the series that younger vampires can shake entire modern bridge structures quite easily.

Eye Ignite: His bloodline's signature ability. Essentially it's pyrokinesis - the ability to create and manipulate fire simply by looking. He can create massive solid balls of fire that explode. This also has the added bonus of making him, unlike other vampires, immune to fire. There is also Raen, which is basically just spiralling flames.

General vampire abilities: His blood can turn a human into a vampire. He is exceptionally strong and fast and has inhuman senses. He can also see the blood in a person's body (kind of like infrared) and recognize people with it. All vampires have the ability to walk on vertical surfaces, or upside down ones. Zelman can also regenerate, though he requires blood to do so. In the Black Blood Brothers universe, a vampire's bite causes the victim to feel pleasure greater than sex. This tends to incapacitate them afterwards, for obvious reasons....

Resonance: Occurs when a BBB-vampire has drunk blood from someone. The victim can hear the vampire's thoughts, see what he's thinking, see through his eyes and feel any sensations the vampire feels. This doesn't last more than an hour though.

Old Blood stuff: Because Zelman is over 100 years old (and ridiculously old in general), he can go for up to three months without blood. This obviously weakens him, though. Daylight and water have no effect on him, either, and he's much stronger and faster than regular vampires... to the point where the main villian in the tv series runs away from him.

Zelman himself has the ability to 'listen' to his blood, and he's also got at least several hundred years of fighting experience.

In Manhattan his blood will not turn anyone else into a vampire. As well, Zelman will only be able to go a month and a half without blood (not that he typically starves himself, but....). For Eye Raid there'll be a five minute limit, he'll be unable to give any drastic orders such as telling someone to injure someone else, and mindreading will be difficult at best (and done with mun permission durr). With the restrictions in place Eye Raid will be most useful - and easiest, by far - to cause a brief bout of sleep. Any Eye Raid will cause him a massive headache, too.

Hide Hand'll have a limit of being able to lift a person or two. If he tries anything more it'll be a strain and he'll require blood afterwards. For Eye Ignite he won't be able to generate nearly as much fire, (maybe a quarter of the size of the fireball in episode 12), it won't be able to explode, and prolonged use will cause him to require blood.

Weaknesses

Decapitation, silver and holy objects. These three things are Zelman's biggest physical weakness. Decapitation is an instant kill. So much as touching silver will burn him, though he has no problem being close to it. However, great injuries caused by silver will kill him. Holy objects weaken him and make him feel nauseous and the more there are, the greater he is weakened. Garlic also makes him very nauseous.

Personality-wise he has a bad habit of speaking without thinking and pushing people overboard, even when they're stronger than he is. His arrogance, sociopathic tendencies and pride don't usually help social interactions, either.

History

Zelman was born waaay back in the 1200s. Most of his life back then is unknown, but he lived in Poland and was turned into a vampire by Asura when he was about 16. The next most prominent things about his life are that he was able to use Asura's bloodline's fire abilities immediately, and that his entire bloodline took part in a massive vampire war in order to be recognized as a distinct bloodline (and Asura as a Source Blood).

The only survivor of this war was Zelman. He earned many of his titles after that war, including ones like "Red-Eyed Murderer" and "Ancient Dark Hunter."

From there he became a recluse, shunning the world until Hong Kong, 1997. A new bloodline was founded by one Adam Wong, his line referred to as the Kowloon bloodline. However, this line was different than others - it only took a bite from a Kowloon Child for someone to become one of them, and it didn't even matter if you were already a vampire. Their appearance differed slightly from regular vampires (black and yellow eyes, pointed ears, long claw-like nails), and most simply turned feral.

The sudden surge of new vampires made their existence public to the entire world. Massive chaos ensued until the Hong Kong Crusade, in which vampires and humans worked together to kill Adam Wong and most of the Kowloon Children. It was officially announced that all vampires had been killed, though this wasn't really the case.

Zelman supported them until they lost. Afterwards, he moved to the Special Zone - a city in Japan created specifically for humans and vampires to live in peace - and started up Coven, a company that oversees vampires in the city with dead bloodlines (that is, vampires without Source Bloods or direct lineages). Effectively, he rules over one third of the Special Zone.

Eventually Jirou and co. show up and crazy shit goes down, in which some of the remaining Kowloon Children attempt to infect the city with tainted blood packets as well as ressurrect Adam Wong. Zelman doesn't play a huge part in this because he's a smarmy asshole. However, he does tell Kotarou to believe in his blood, is the reason the protagonists find out about the tainted blood (indirectly helping to quell the infection before it takes over the city) and he fucks with Yafuri and Zaza for fun.
